LEXINGTON, Ky. - Santa Clara indoor volleyball once again was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for their tremendous work in the classroom. The Broncos were honored as a recipient of the AVCA Team Academic Award for the fifth consecutive season dating back to 2019-20.
"I am so proud of our team being recognized again with the AVCA Team Academic Award," head coach
Erin Lindsey said. "We have a team goal to achieve this recognition and our athletes put in significant time and effort to do their best in the classroom. The women of Santa Clara volleyball have a wide range of academic interests and majors. Our team values excellence not only on the court, but as a part of the Santa Clara academic community."
A record number of volleyball programs earned the AVCA Team Academic Award, which requires a team to maintain a year-long GPA of 3.3 during the recently completed academic year. Over 1,400 collegiate and high school programs were honored in 2023-24.
"We are pleased that the record-setting success of the 2023-24 season on the court has extended to the classroom, too, as evidenced by more programs earning the Team Academic Award than ever before," said AVCA CEO Jamie Gordon. "This is a great example of how committed our coaches are when it comes to helping their players reach their full potential as both students and athletes."
The AVCA Team Academic Award is just the latest academic accolade for the Broncos, who set a new program record earlier this year with eight student-athletes earning WCC All-Academic honors, as well as three athletes that earned Academic All-District honors by College Sports Communicators (formerly COSIDA). Set to begin their sixth year under Lindsey's direction, the Broncos will begin the season on August 30 inside the Leavey Center.
