Women's Soccer To Honor Program's Honda Award Winners at Halftime of Seattle Match

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – All four of Santa Clara women's soccer Honda Award winners will be honored at Stevens Stadium Saturday afternoon as the Broncos take on Seattle at 1 p.m. Brandi Chastain, Aly Wagner, Leslie Osborne, and Alex Loera will all be honored in a halftime ceremony, with Chastain, Osborne, and Loera in attendance. Chastain won the award in 1990 after leading the Broncos to their second College Cup appearance in as many years. She was a First Team All-American that season while scoring 22 goals, the then-program record and currently the third most in team history, while also adding six assists for 50 points, which is tied for fourth in program history.
 
Wagner was named the Honda Award winner after helping Santa Clara to the program's first National Championship in 2001. She was also named First Team All-America, First Team All-West Region, the Soccer America Player of the Year, and the Soccer Buzz Player of the Year while being named The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame Female Collegiate Athlete of the Year as well. Wagner was honored as the WCC Player of the Year and First Team All-WCC and went on to be named the College Cup Offensive MVP and to the College Cup All-Tournament Team. For her work in the classroom, Wagner was an Academic All-American. During that season Wagner led Santa Clara with 17 goals, 20 assists, and 54 points. The assist total is tied for second in program history and the points are third.
 
Osborne took home the award in 2004 as the Broncos advanced to the 10th College Cup on program history. She was named to the College Cup All-Tournament Team as well. During the season, Osborne finished that season with nine goals and one assist. She also took home First Team All-America and First Team All-West Region honors to go with her second consecutive WCC Player of the Year and fourth straight First Team All-WCC selection. Osborne was also named the WCC Defender of the Year.
 
Loera captained the 2020 edition of Santa Clara to its second National Championship and took home the Honda Award for her performance. She was a Second Team All-American and a First Team All-West region pick as well as the WCC Defender of the Year and a First Team All-WCC selection.
