Broncos Sweep Seattle on Senior Day

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara women's volleyball swept Seattle on Senior Day. The Broncos faced little resistance, giving the home crowd an infectious energy that spread throughout the arena. Santa Clara had three players in double figures in kills led by Grace Flanagan (12), Layla Truitt (10), and Morgan Hayes (10).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • A kill from Grace Flanagan put the Broncos up 6-3, but four straight points from Seattle U gave them the lead. A kill from Layla Truitt made it 15-13, and another kill from Flanagan extended the lead to 22-19. Truitt finished off the set for the Broncos with a side swipe as Santa Clara took set one, 25-21.
  • A kill from Flanagan capped three straight points to put Santa Clara up 7-3 to open set two. An ace from Cate Shanahan capped off three straight Bronco points to extend the lead to 12-6, and later 16-9 after a kill from Truitt. However, four straight points from Seattle cut the lead to three. Three straight from the Broncos increased the lead to 22-16, and a kill from Truitt gave the Broncos set two, 25-20.
  • Seattle U (8-21, 2-16) scored the first two points of set three, but Santa Clara answered with three straight points to take a 10-6 lead. Another three point rally made it 17-10, forcing another Seattle timeout.
