BERKELEY, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis had three doubles teams and two singles players at the ITA Sectional Championships and on Thursday's opening round, the tandem of Luca Bluett and John Kim advanced to the next round.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Bluett and Kim edged out the doubles team of Filip Gustafsson and Oskar Jansson from Arizona, 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 1-0 (11-9) in the round of 16.
- The Broncos had two other doubles teams but both lost. Luca Lemaitre and Valentin Faure took the UCLA pair of Rudy Quan and Aadarsh Tripathi to three sets but fell short 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5).
- In singles, Bluett and Alexander Watanabe Eriksson dropped their round of 32 matches in straight sets.
- However, Watanabe Eriksson played a consolation match and defeated Tal Goodman of UC Irvine, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8).
