SAN BRUNO, Calif. – For the second week in a row, a Santa Clara softball player was recognized as the West Coast Conference Player of the Week with Abigail Charpentier taking home the honors on Monday.
Charpentier spearheaded the Bronco offense that saw them score 51 runs over five games at the Silicon Valley Classic I Tournament. Santa Clara went 4-1 over the weekend including four straight wins to close out the tournament.
The senior outfielder had a slash line of .429/.600/1.143, going 6-for-14 and drove in nine runs. Five of her hits went for extra bases – a pair of doubles, a triple and two home runs.
Charpentier's first home run, a two-run variety, tied the game up at 4-all against Cal Poly in a game the Broncos would score 12 unanswered runs to erase a four-run deficit. She also added another two-run blast against Colorado State in the tournament finale.
Against UIC, her RBI single put the Broncos up 4-3 and a lead they would not relinquish in the 12-10 win.
The Irvine, California native had at least one RBI in each of the five games.
It is the first such honor for Charpentier.
The Broncos next play on Feb. 24 hosting a doubleheader against CSU Bakersfield.
