Season Ends for Women's Basketball With Loss to LMU

Box Score LAS VEGAS – The season came to an end for Santa Clara women's basketball with a 66-52 loss to LMU in the second round of the 2025 Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference Women's Basketball Championship. The Broncos (14-17) started well but the Lions (14-15) got on top with a big second quarter and never looked back.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • A 6-0 run for Santa Clara put the Broncos on top by seven in the early going but LMU came right back with five in a row and the teams' exchanged points the rest of the way with Santa Clara holding a 17-16 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • A 9-2 Lions run in the middle part of the second put them on top by four. The Broncos deficit would grow as LMU closed the half on a 7-0 run and had a 35-26 lead at the half.
  • Down 11, Santa Clara went on a 7-0 run to get back within four but LMU responded to stretch the lead back to nine. After a triple for the Broncos, the Lions scored the final six of the period, all from the free throw line to lead heading to the fourth.
  • The Lions out the game away with a late 8-0 run, with six coming from the free throw line to grow the advantage to a game-high 16.
 
NOTABLE NUMBERS:
  • Santa Clara shot it at 41.5-percent from the field and went 5-of-19 from downtown.
  • LMU shot 33.3-percent for the game and was 5-of-21 from beyond the arc.
  • Malia Latu was the only Bronco in double figures with 19 points. Olivia Pollerd had nine rebounds with Maddie Naro scoring nine.
  • Four players scored all but two of LMU's points, led by 22 from Brandi Williams who also had eight rebounds. Naudia Evans shot just 4-of-18 but scored 16 while Maya Hernandez had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds and Carly Heidger scored 12.
  • Santa Clara shot four free throws while LMU shot 18 thanks 20 fouls called against the Broncos and nine against the Lions.
  • Turnovers were one of the biggest issues on the day for the Broncos. They committed 17 while forcing just four. The Lions turned that into a 16-5 advantage in points on turnovers.
 
OTHER NOTES:
  • Pollerd finished her career with 1,265 points at Santa Clara, good for 10th all-time. Her 203 3-pointers are fifth in program history, her 496 field goals made are sixth all-time, her 1,142 field goal attempts are ninth all-time, her 546 3-point attempts are seventh all-time, and her 135 blocks are second all-time.
