McCarty Posts Top 15 Finish In Masters Debut

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Santa Clara men's golf alum Matt McCarty could not have asked for a much better Masters debut. Making his first appearance at the historic Augusta National, the Scottsdale, Ariz., native shot a four-day total of 3-under 71-68-75-71—285 to finish in a tie for 14th.

"It was amazing to see one of our Broncos show that he deserved and can play with the best players in the world," head coach Andrew Larkin said. "Matt continues to show the world that great golfers are developed at Santa Clara and that this institution can produce some of the best athletes in the world."

A three-time All-WCC selection during his time with the Broncos from 2016-17 through 2020-21, McCarty made the 53-man cut line after a sensational second round on Friday. He birdied eight of the final 13 holes, including four-straight on Nos. 6-9, to finish the day 4-under 68 and was tied for fifth at 5-under 139 overall.

McCarty headed into moving day looking to maintain his position and fared well for the majority of Saturday's round. He made par on 14 of the first 15 holes of play, with the lone exception being a birdie on the par 5 13th. However, the final three holes proved to be troublesome for the 27-year-old as he bogeyed 16 and 18, and double bogeyed 17 to finish the round 3-over 75.

McCarty bounced back on Championship Sunday as he tallied three birdies to offset a pair of bogeys and finish the day 1-under 71 and bring his four-day total to 3-under 285. He finished in a seven-way tie for 14th alongside former Masters Champions Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson and Jon Rahm, along with Colin Morikawa, Tyrrell Hatton and Tom Hoge.

McCarty finished just two strokes outside of the top 10 and was eight strokes behind Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy, who defeated Rose in sudden death to capture the tournament title at 8-under 277.

In his first season as a PGA Tour member, McCarty has now made the cut in 10 of his 16 events played, and now has three top-25 finishes in 2025 – all of which have come in the last month of action.
