Bayles Earns Spot at USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Camp

Sophomore righty Max Bayles will participate in USA Baseball's Collegiate National Team Training Camp on June 29-July 3 in North Carolina.
CARY, N.C. — Santa Clara University sophomore right-handed pitcher Max Bayles has received an invitation to participate in USA Baseball's Collegiate National Team Training Camp, set for June 29 through July 3 in North Carolina.

The Collegiate National Team Training Camp features 56 of the premier non-draft-eligible collegiate players in the country. A five-game "Stars vs. Stripes" series will be played by the participants at three different venues across North Carolina. The first game will be held at Atrium Health Ballpark in Kannapolis, with the next three games played at USA Baseball's National Training Complex in Cary. The final game of the camp and series will be played at Segra Stadium in Fayetteville, N.C. The 2025 Collegiate National Team will be named on July 4, following the conclusion of Training Camp.

Bayles was named second team all-West Coast Conference this season after leading the league with 105 strikeouts and ranking fourth among qualified pitchers with a 4.45 ERA (through the end of the regular season, May 17). He struck out nine or more in six outings, including a career-high 12 in 5 1/3 innings at UC Davis on Feb. 22, and tossed a complete-game (7-inning) shutout on March 22 versus rival San Francisco.

Bayles was named WCC Pitcher of the Week three times (Feb. 17, Feb. 24, May 12) and was selected to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List and the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award Watch List. He also earned WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention accolades. Opponents hit just .232 against Bayles. Nationally, his 14.18 strikeouts per nine innings ranked fourth in the country (through May 18), and he also stood among the top-10 in several advanced categories: 35.1% strikeout rate (7th), 3.77 xFIP (9th), and 2.36 SIERA (14th).

Bayles is the fourth Bronco ever selected to participate in USA Baseball's Collegiate National Team Training Camp, and the first since Tommy Medica in 2007. David Tuttle (1991) and Mike McFarland (1985) also participated in the camp.

Those selected to the 2025 Collegiate National Team will play in the 45th USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Championship Series on July 8-13, this year held in Japan for the first time since 2019. The remaining players from the Collegiate National Team Training Camp will play in a Fourth of July game against the Appalachian League Select Team at Atrium Health Ballpark.
