LEXINGTON, Ky.- The Santa Clara women's volleyball program earned their sixth consecutive American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award Monday dating back to the 2020 season. The team posted a 3.548 Grade Point Average throughout the 2024-25 academic year, which ranks second highest among all Santa Clara sports programs.
Â
"We are so excited to be recognized again by the AVCA for our team's work in the classroom," head coach
Erin Lindsey said. "I am very proud of our student-athletes who spend so much time and effort representing the Broncos on the court but also contribute to the exceptional academic community here at Santa Clara."
Â
The AVCA announced Monday that 1,450 collegiate and high school volleyball teams earned their Team Academic Award this season, marking an all-time record number of programs honored for their academic achievements. The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.
Â
"It is very exciting to see that the record-setting, on-court successes during the 2024-25 season have extended to the classroom," AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon said. "The fact that more programs earned the Team Academic Award than ever before is evidence of how committed our coaches are when it comes to helping their players reach their goals as both students and athletes."
Â
The AVCA Team Academic Award is just the latest academic accolade for the Broncos, who saw seven student-athletes earning WCC All-Academic honors, as well as four athletes that earned Academic All-District honors by College Sports Communicators (formerly COSIDA). Set to begin their seventh year under Lindsey's direction, the Broncos will begin the season on August 29 in South Bend, Ind. against Notre Dame before their first home contest on Sept. 4 vs. Cal Baptist.
