Men's Hoops Unveils 2025-26 Nonconference Schedule

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - A total of 13 contests will make up Santa Clara men's basketball's 2025-26 nonconference schedule. Six of the games will be played from the comfort of home inside the Leavey Center while five will be played at neutral sites. The Broncos will also play two true road contests at Xavier and New Mexico.

Under the direction of Herb Sendek in his 10th season at the helm of the program, the Broncos will host five of their first six games inside the Leavey Center beginning Nov. 4th against Cal Poly Humboldt. Three days later they will welcome the Cowboys of McNeese State before hitting the road for Cincinnati to take on Xavier inside the Cintas Center on Nov. 10th. Upon their return to the Bay, Santa Clara will host Nevada (11/15), Idaho State (11/18) and Louisiana (11/21) before making their way south for the Acrisure Invitational in Palm Desert, Calif. Making their second consecutive appearance in the tournament, the Broncos will play Saint Louis in the opening game on Nov. 27 and either Stanford or Minnesota the following day.

Santa Clara will host just one home game during December and it will happen just three days into the month when Utah Tech makes their return to the Leavey Center for the second time in three seasons. The Broncos will then hit the road for their final true road contest of nonconference play as they head to The Pit in Albuquerque to take on the Lobos of New Mexico on Dec. 6. Sendek will then get another crack at his former team, the Arizona State Sun Devils,  on Dec. 13 in Henderson, Nev. as part of the annual Jack Jones Classic. The nonconference slate will conclude the week of Dec. 15th with two neutral site games that will played just down Highway 17 at Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz. The Broncos will first play North Texas on Dec. 17th and will close things out against Loyola Chicago on Dec. 20th.

  • Cal Poly Humboldt is under the direction of first year head coach DJ Broome, who replaced previous head coach Chris Tifft in June.
  • The Lumberjacks return their leading scorer in sophomore Rob Diaz III, who averaged 16.0 ppg as a freshman en route to earning First Team All-CCAA honors.
Nov. 7 vs. McNeese State | Leavey Center | 7:00 p.m
  • The Broncos will welcome McNeese State to the Leavey Center as a bookend to a home-and-home series that began last season.
  • In the first-ever meeting between the programs on Dec. 3, 2024, Santa Clara escaped Lake Charles with a hard-fought 74-67 victory in what proved to be the Cowboys' lone loss inside the Legacy Center in 2024-25.
  • McNeese will have a new face of the program as Bill Armstrong begins his first season as head coach following Will Wade's departure to North Carolina State. Armstrong joined the Cowboys after serving on Scott Drew's staff at Baylor in 2024-25.
  • The Cowboys also return their leading scorer in 2025 Southland Conference Player of the Year Javohn Garcia, who averaged 12.6 points per game last season
Nov. 10 at Xavier | Cincinatti, Ohio (Cintas Center) | TBD
  • In what will be their furthest trip away from the Leavey Center in 2025, the Broncos will head to Cincinnati for just the third meeting ever against the Musketeers. Both of those prior meetings were also in Cincinatti, first in 1949 (L, 41-76) and again in 1963 (W, 69-66).
  • Xavier made its 30th appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2024-25. They defeated Texas in the NCAA First Four before falling to No. 6 Illinois, 86-73. Following the season, head coach Sean Miller departed to take the helm at Texas.
  • Richard Pitinio replaced Miller in April, joining the Musketeers from New Mexico where he served a four-year stint as the Lobos' head coach.
  • Xavier will feature a roster full of new faces after losing their top three scorers from their 2024-25.
Nov. 15 vs. Nevada | Leavey Center | 4:00 p.m.
  • The Broncos will host the Nevada Wolfpack for the backend of a home-and-home series that saw Santa Clara fall 85-59 in Reno last season. This will be the 66th meeting all-time between the programs.
  • The last time Santa Clara hosted Nevada in the Leavey Center was Nov. 16, 2021. The Broncos blew past the Wolfpack 96-74 with the trio of Parker Braun, Jalen Williams and Keshawn Justice notching 19, 18 and 18 points, respectively.
  • Unlike the first three teams the Broncos will see in 2025, Nevada did not make a coaching change in their offseason as Steve Alford returns for his seventh season with the program.
  • The Wolfpack was 17-16 overall in 2024-25. They will also need to replace their two leading scorers in Nick Davidson and Kobe Sanders, who averaged more than 30 points per game combined last season.
Nov. 18 vs. Idaho State | Leavey Center | 7:00 p.m.
  • The Broncos will take on the Bengals of Idaho State for eighth time in the programs' history. The series has been historically even with Santa Clara holding a slim 4-3 advantage, although they have won three of the last four, including a 62-49 affair the last time the teams met on Nov. 25, 2020.
  • Ryan Looney returns as the program's head coach for his seventh season at the helm.
  • The Bengals were 15-15 last season and will also need to replace their leading scorer in Daylan Darling, who averaged 19.8 points last season.
Nov. 21 vs. Louisiana | Leavey Center | 7:00 p.m.
  • This will be the first meeting between the Broncos and Ragin' Cajuns.
  • Louisiana (previously known as Louisiana-Lafayette) will also have a new head coach leading the charge in the form of Quannas White, who joined the team following eight seasons on Kevin Sampson's staff at Houston.
  • The Ragin' Cajuns are also looking to replace their leading scorer from 2024-25. They finished last season 12-21 overall.
Nov. 27 vs. Saint Louis | Palm Desert, Calif. (Acrisure Arena) | Acrisure Invitational | 4:00 p.m.
  • The Broncos and Billikens are set to square off for the second-straight year. The teams opened 2024-25 against each other at the Field of 68 Showcase in Sioux Falls, S.D. where the Broncos came away with an 85-78 victory.
  • Santa Clara leads the all-time series over Saint Louis, 4-1.
  • Josh Schertz returns to helm the program for the second-straight season.
  • The Broncos will once again have to deal with big man Robbie Avila, a senior who averaged 17.3 points and 6.9 rebounds last season.
Nov. 28 vs. Stanford/Minnesota | Palm Desert, Calif. (Acrisure Arena) | Acrisure Invitational | TBD
  • Santa Clara will take either the Cardinal or Minnesota on the final day of the tournament.
  • The Broncos dropped a tough home contest to the Cardinal last season, 71-69. Santa Clara is 28-53 all-time against Stanford.
  • A meeting against the Golden Gophers would be just the fifth-ever between the programs. Minnesota won all four of the previous meetings, most recently on Nov. 20, 2018.
Dec. 3 vs. Utah Tech | Leavey Center | 7:00 p.m.
  • Utah Tech returns to the Leavey Center for the second time in the last three seasons. The Broncos and Trailblazers squared off in 2023 in a 77-69 Bronco victory.
  • Longtime coach Jon Judkins will return for his 21st season with the program in 2025-26.
  • The Trailblazers were 7-26 last season.
Dec. 6 at New Mexico | Albuquerque, N.M. (The Pit) | TBD
  • The Broncos and Lobos will square off for the ninth time. The teams last met on neutral ground in 2023 in Henderson, Nev. where New Mexico came away with a 93-76 victory. The Broncos are 3-5 all-time against the Lobos with their last victory coming on Nov. 24, 2011. This will be the sixth time they meet each other inside the Pit, regarded as one of the most difficult places to play in all of college basketball. Santa Clara is 1-4 in such games with their lone win coming in the 1968 NCAA Tournament.
  • Following Richard Pitinio's move to Xavier, New Mexico hired former UC San Diego head coach Eric Olen to lead the program.
  • The Lobos were 27-8 last season and qualified for the NCAA Tournament where they defeated Marquette 75-66 before falling to Michigan State in the round of 32.
  • New Mexico will need to replace all four of their double figure scorers from the 2024-25 squad, most notably Donovan Dent, who transferred to UCLA following an All-America season where he averaged over 20 points per game.
Dec. 13 vs. Arizona State | Henderson, Nev. (Lee's Family Forum) | Jack Jones Classic | 3:30 p.m.
  • Following last season's tough 81-74 loss, the Broncos will have another shot against the Sun Devils as the teams will once again meet inside Lee's Family Forum in Henderson, Nev.
  • Santa Clara is looking for their first win over Arizona State since consecutive victories at the start of the series in 1956 and 1957. Since then, the Sun Devils have won six-straight.
  • Bobby Hurley returns for his ninth season at the helm of the program.
  • The Sun Devils were 13-20 overall in 2024-25. Their 2025-26 roster will be almost entirely revamped with just two returners and a host of transfers, including former WCC players Moe Odum (Pepperdine/Pacific) and Santiago Trouet (San Diego).
Dec. 17 vs. North Texas | Santa Cruz, Calif. (Kaiser Permanante Arena) | 6:00 p.m.
  • The Broncos have faced the Mean Green three times prior, but have not done so since the 1980-81 season. SCU won all three previous matchups.
  • In a trend that is common among the majority of SCU's nonconference opponents, North Texas will have a new head coach at the helm in the form of Daniyal Robinson, who came over to Denton following three seasons as head coach of Cleveland State. Robinson replaces Ross Hodge who departed the Mean Green following a 27-9 campaign that saw them advance to the NIT Semifinals to become the new head coach at West Virginia.
  • The Mean Green also will have a revamped roster that will feature a host of transfers, including 2024 Conference USA Freshman of the Year David Terrell Jr.
Dec. 20 vs. Loyola Chicago | Leavey Center | 4:00 p.m.
  • The Broncos and Rambles have met each other five times previously, but it has been a long, long time since they have done so. The last showdown came in December 1967 in what would be SCU's lone win of the series.
  • Drew Valentine returns for his fifth season as head coach of the Ramblers.
  • The Ramblers were 25-12 last season where they too concluded their year in the semifinals of the NIT. They are also looking to replace all three of their leading scorers, including Jayden Dawson who transferred to Kansas following earning second team All-Atlantic 10 honors as a junior.
