SAN FRANCISCO – The Santa Clara men's tennis doubles team of Alexander Watanabe Eriksson and John Kim qualified for the prestigious Battle in the Bay Classic tournament in San Francisco by winning the doubles wildcard tournament last weekend, however on Thursday, the Bronco duo fell in the opening round 8-5 to a double team from UC Santa Barbara.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Watanabe Eriksson and Kim faced the Gauchos' duo of Lucca Liu and Dominique Rolland in the opening round of 16 and lost 8-5.  
• Neither the Watanabe Eriksson/Kim tandem nor the Liu/Rolland twosome played together last season for their respective schools.  

NEXT UP:

• The second day of the Battle in the Bay Classic continues on Friday.  Watanabe Eriksson and Kim will face Arizona State's Jelani Sarr and Niels Villard at 9 a.m. PT in the consolation bracket.
