SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Skylar Stroh drove in five runs while Charley Duran and Loula-Rae McNamara combined to allow two runs in Boise State's 8-2 victory over Santa Clara softball at the Stanford hosted DeMarini Invitational Tournament on Friday. The game was played at the Santa Clara Softball Stadium, part of a schedule adjustment as Stanford worked with the County of Santa Clara planning department to complete work at their new softball stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Stroh went 2-for-3, doubling in a run in the top of the first, hitting an RBI grounder in the fifth and slugging a three-run home run in the seventh to supply much of the Boise State (7-6) offense.
- Duran blanked Santa Clara (6-6) through the first five frames, before giving up a two RBI single to pinch hitter Marie Martorella in the bottom of the sixth that made it 5-2. McNamara came in relief and gave up a single to Robynn Balmediano but with two runners on and the potential game-tying run at the plate, she struck out Elle Merlino and pinch hitter Audrey Graham to escape the jam. She finished the game to earn her first save of the season.
- Duran allowed the pair of runs over 5 1/3 innings. She gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out six to improved to 3-1.
- Santa Clara starter Cari Ferguson had her shortest outing of the season going four innings and giving up three runs to drop to 3-3 on the year.
- Cairah Curran, Kyla Acres and Taryn Clements had two hits each for SCU. Marissa Gonzalez along with Stroh were the two Boise State players with multiple hits. Gonzalez drove in the first run of the game on a single.
NEXT UP:
- Santa Clara hosts a pair of nationally ranked teams on Saturday at the SCU Softball Stadium, starting with No. 16 Arizona at 2 p.m. PT and No. 3 Texas at 4:30 p.m. Both games are sold out and single game tickets are not available for sale/walk-up.
