Softball Drops Series Opener to Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. – Tauavepeaoumamalu Risati and Zaedi Tagalog each homered while Kaytee Dahlstrom threw a three-hit complete game to lift Pacific past Santa Clara softball 7-2 in the series opener on Friday night at Bill Simoni Field.  It was the first series opening loss for Santa Clara (22-20, 7-3 WCC) in a three-game series this season, having won the previous five.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Pacific (14-29, 2-8 WCC) offense collected 10 hits and scored the first six runs before the Broncos could answer.  Risati blasted a three-run homer in the third inning and Tagalog hit a solo shot in the fourth, both against Santa Clara starter Cari Ferguson, to open a 4-0 lead.  The Tigers added a pair of runs in the fifth on an RBI single by Kaylah Adams and a stolen base of home by Amanda Bricker as part of a double steal.
  • The Tigers had eight players with a hit led by Olivia Silvestre and Tagalog who had two apiece.
  • Dahlstrom struck out a career-high eight batters in her 97 pitch outing to earn her third win of the season.  Hazyl Gray spoiled her shutout attempt with a two-run homer to center in the sixth.
  • Cairah Curran was the only other Broncos to get a hit, going 2-for-3.
