DAVIS, Calif. — The Santa Clara University beach volleyball team opened the Aggie Classic on Thursday with a pair of wins, defeating Sacramento State, 4-1, and UC Davis, 3-2, in afternoon action at the UC Davis Beach Volleyball Courts.
 
vs. SACRAMENTO STATE

• Santa Clara (18-14) won four of five pairs against the Hornets (12-15), with Avery Cukjati and Sadie Snipes delivering one of the day's most competitive matches at the top of the lineup.
   
• Cukjati and Snipes rallied from a second-set loss at the No. 1 pairs to defeat Aurora Bibolotti and Victoria Marthaler, 24-22, 16-21, 19-17. Teagan Wilson and Sammy Wood were efficient at the 2s, taking down Reese Ampi and Ashlynn Archer in straight sets, 21-11, 21-17.
   
• Ciara Cantlen and Alexandra Urbina dispatched Greta Davis and Skyler Gartin at the 4s, 21-14, 21-19, while Tyler Parouse and Ava Stoddard opened the first set to extra points before closing out Abbey Kadillak and Karlie Sophn at the 5s, 24-22, 21-9. Mandy Hansen and Noelle Niederman dropped a closely-contested decision to Kate Doorn and Mia Guevara at the 3s, winning the opener before falling, 18-21, 21-11, 15-13.

vs. UC DAVIS

• Santa Clara closed out the day with another victory, winning three of five pairs against the host Aggies (15-17) to cap a sweep of the afternoon slate.
   
• Cukjati and Snipes were dominant at the No. 1 pairs, taking down Ella Erteltova and Kinley Lindhardt, 21-9, 21-15. Cantlen and Urbina followed at the 4s, dispatching Emma Johnson and Alexandra Leal, 21-19, 21-8, while Parouse and Stoddard won at the 5s against Ava Berard and Kirra Martin, 21-15, 18-21, 15-12.
   
• Anna Balsdon and Hansen dropped a 21-18, 21-14 decision to Kate O'Steen and Skye Smolinski at the 3s. Wilson and Wood pushed UC Davis' Shelby Santos and Kaitlyn Smyth to a third set at the 2s before dropping the decision, 14-21, 21-16, 15-13.
