Broncos Set Program Win Record on Final Day of Aggie Classic

Alexandra Urbina went 2-0 Saturday with partner Ciara Cantlen at the No. 4 pairs spot.
DAVIS, Calif. — The Santa Clara University beach volleyball team made history on Saturday, defeating UC Davis, 3-2, at the UC Davis Beach Volleyball Courts to set a new program record with its 19th win of the season. The Broncos closed out the Aggie Classic later in the afternoon, falling to Sacramento State, 3-2.
 
vs. UC DAVIS
  • Santa Clara (19-15) topped UC Davis (15-19) for the third consecutive time, setting a new single-season wins record in the process. The program's previous season wins record was 18 on two occasions (2023 and '25).
     
  • Avery Cukjati and Sadie Snipes delivered one of the day's best matches at the No. 1 pairs, rallying from a second-set loss to defeat Ella Erteltova and Kinley Lindhardt, 21-17, 27-29, 15-13. Teagan Wilson and Sammy Wood were sharp at the 2s, taking down Shelby Santos and Kaitlyn Smyth in straight sets, 21-16, 21-17, while Ciara Cantlen and Alexandra Urbina were dominant at the 4s, dispatching Emma Johnson and Alexandra Leal, 21-15, 21-10.
     
  • Anna Balsdon and Mandy Hansen dropped a 21-12, 21-11 decision to Kate O'Steen and Skye Smolinski at the 3s, while Tyler Parouse and Ava Stoddard fell to Anna Braun and Kendal Steller at the 5s, 21-18, 21-14.
vs. SACRAMENTO STATE
  • Santa Clara pushed the Hornets (14-15) to the limit in the afternoon, with six of 11 sets decided by three points or fewer in a tightly-contested, 3-2, match.
     
  • Cantlen and Urbina took the 4s in straight sets, defeating Greta Davis and Skyler Gartin, 25-23, 21-15. Parouse and Stoddard followed at the 5s, taking down Karlie Sophn and Keonahi'ila Solaita, 21-16, 21-12, to give Santa Clara its two points.
     
  • Cukjati and Snipes pushed Sacramento State's Reese Ampi and Ashlynn Archer all the way to a third set at the No. 1 pairs, dropping the decision, 17-21, 27-25, 16-14, in one of the most competitive matches of the tournament. Aurora Bibolotti and Victoria Marthaler took the 2s over Wilson and Wood, 21-18, 21-19, with both sets decided by only two and three points respectively. Balsdon and Hansen fell to Kate Doorn and Mia Guevara at the 3s, 26-24, 21-15, with the first set going to extra points.
