SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Anna Brewer and Zoe Prystajko combined to hold Santa Clara softball to one run while the bats got some timely hits as No. 18 Stanford defeated Santa Clara softball 3-1 in a midweek nonconference game at SCU Softball Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Stanford (31-12) scored a run in the top of the first and two runs in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead. Brewer started in the circle, went two innings before giving way to Prystajko who went the rest of the way limiting the Santa Clara (22-23) lineup to four hits.
- In the opening frame, Emily Jones legged out the first of two bunt singles in the game and came around to score on a double by River Mahler for the first run of the game.
- After Brewer issued a leadoff walk to start the third, Prystajko entered and allowed just one hit, a triple to Hazyl Gray, over five innings to pick up her 16th win of the season.
- The Cardinal gave some run support to Prystajko in the fourth. Ava Gall led off the inning with a double and Sydney Boulaphinh followed with another two-base hit to make it 2-0. Boulaphinh advanced to third on a ground out and following a walk to Jones, the Cardinal tandem successfully pulled a double steal that pushed the lead out to three runs.
- The Broncos scored their lone run in the sixth when Hazyl Gray tripled to left field and came home on Marie Martorella's ground out.
- Along with Jones, Mahler and Gall had multi-hit games.
