No. 9 Cal Softball Gets Past Santa Clara

BERKELEY, Calif. – The ninth-ranked University of California softball team scored five unearned runs, helping the Golden Bears to a 12-0 non-conference victory over visiting Santa Clara University on Wednesday afternoon.

California (31-9) totaled 10 hits and freshman pitcher Arianna Erceg went five innings in the circle - striking out three and allowing just three hits - en route to her fourth win of the season.

Santa Clara (6-24) countered with freshman Jessica Turner, who kept Cal off the scoreboard in the first inning before the Golden Bears put up four runs in the second and third to claim the lead. Jamie Wallis, Kelly Scribner and Amanda Edmonson each tallied a hit for the Broncos, who will host Pacific Coast Softball Conference rival Sacramento State this weekend, Saturday and Sunday at 12 noon.

The Bears broke the game open in the bottom of the second with an RBI double from Jordan Wallace and a two-RBI single by Victoria Jones. The game was Cal's final non-conference test of the regular season.
