Broncos Shatter School Record En Route To Runner-Up Finish

PROVO, Utah - After turning in the best 18-hole performance in program history on Monday, Santa Clara women's golf achieved history once again on Tuesday as they shattered the record for the lowest 54-hole team score with an 18-under 846. The Broncos finished their time in Provo with a runner-up finish at the Timpanogos Collegiate Invitational. Sophomore Audrey Brust was excellent all three days of competition and carded a 2-under 70 to finish the event in a tie for fourth at 8-under 208, which stands as the second-lowest individual score in program history.

ROUND HIGHLIGHTS
  • Building on an even-par performance in round one and a remarkable 12-under score in round two, the Broncos maintained their sub-par streak by shooting six-under in the final day of competition.
  • Brust's fourth place finish was a personal best for the Reno native, and her three-day total of 208 bested her previous career low of 216.
  • Following her impressive 5-under 67 round yesterday, Inara Sharma followed up with 1-over 73 on Tuesday to finish the event in a tie for 17th at 2-under 214, which also is a career-best finish.
  • Kelsey Kim, making her collegiate debut, contributed to the Broncos' success in a big way. After posting an even-par 72 yesterday, she delivered an impressive 3-under 69 in the final round to lead all Bronco individuals for the day. Kim rolled in her second collegiate eagle on the par-4 No. 6 and finished the event tied for 17th alongside her teammate Sharma.
  • Newcomer Meva Schmit climbed 20 spots in the rankings on the final day after carding a 2-under 70 that included a total of four birdies. She tied for 12th at 4-under 212.
  • Fellow newcomer Patricia Garre Munoz completed her Bronco debut finding a pair of birdies to put herself 6-over 222 for opening weekend.

THOUGHTS FROM HEAD COACH KRYSTAL KELLY
"I'm incredibly proud of this team. They have accomplished so much in just one week and showed tremendous heart out there. It's going to be a fun season. Kelsey Kim played really solid this week. As a freshman, to come out to shoot under par in the first tournament is very impressive. Audrey Brust was on fire this week. Her game has improved so much and it was fun watching her out there this week."

NEXT UP
The Broncos are heading to University Place, Wash. to take part in the Leadership and Golf Invitational hosted by the Washington Huskies, Sept. 18-19.
