PORTLAND, Oreg. - The Santa Clara women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to the Portland Pilots at the Chiles Center in Portland, Oreg. on Saturday, Oct. 12.
Lauren Grover led the team in kills for the second game in a row with 12, and
Alayna Crabtree led the Broncos with nine digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Broncos (5-9) scored four in a row to take a 6-3 lead to open the first set. However, Portland battled back, scoring four straight points to take a 12-11 lead. The Pilots scored three in a row to go up 15-12 lead going into the media timeout. The Pilots went up 17-13 after two straight points, forcing a Santa Clara timeout.
- Two straight points gave Portland a 20-15 advantage, leading to another Santa Clara timeout. The Broncos cut it to 21-18 with a kill from Lauren Grover, but the Pilots scored the last four points to take the first set 25-18.
- Portland (9-6) jumped out to a 5-2 lead to open the second set, but the Broncos fought back tying the game at nine after a kill by Lauren Grover. The Broncos scored three in a row to take a 14-12 lead capped off by a kill from Grace Flanagan. A kill from Morgan Hayes gave the Broncos a 22-18 lead, capping off a three-point rally. However, Portland scored five in a row to take a 23-22 lead, forcing a Broncos timeout.
- After a kill from Layla Truitt, both teams traded points to tie the match at 24. However, the Pilots scored the final two points of the set to take set two, 26-24.
- The Pilots scored three in a row to take a 5-2 lead to open the third set. Four straight points from the Pilots made it 9-3. The Pilots scored five in a row to take a 19-10 lead. Three straight points made it 22-12, and the Pilots rode the hot hand finishing out the set 25-18.
