SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's volleyball team fell to the LMU Lions 3-1 on Thursday, Oct. 3 at the Leavey Center in Santa Clara, Calif. The Broncos won the first set and led 18-15 in the second set, but were unable to get over the hump, dropping the final three sets.
Alayna Crabtree led the Broncos with 15 kills and 12 digs, recording her fourth double-double of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Broncos (4-7) jumped out to a 6-4 lead in the first set after a kill from Lauren Grover. LMU fought back, scoring four in a row to take an 8-6 lead, and later 14-11. However, the Broncos battled, scoring four in a row capped off by another kill from Lauren Grover to take a 15-14 lead.
- The set went back-and-forth until back-to-back service aces from Lexi Trapani gave the Broncos a 23-21 advantage. After an LMU point, the Broncos scored the final two points capped by another Lauren Grover kill to take the first set, 25-22.
- The Broncos rode the momentum in the second set taking an 8-5 lead off another kill from Grover, and later 11-8. LMU made it 14-12, but a kill from Alayna Crabtree gave the Broncos a 15-12 lead going into the media timeout. A kill from Oren Abutbul made it 18-15, but LMU scored seven straight points to take a 22-18 lead.
- The Broncos scored four in a row to tie it at 22 capped by a kill from Alayna Crabtree, however, LMU scored three of the next four to take the second set 25-23.
- LMU (10-3) went up 5-2 to start the third set. SCU made it 6-4 with a kill by Grace Flanagan, but LMU scored four in a row to take a 10-4 lead. After an SCU point, the Lions scored three straight to go up 14-5. LMU rode the momentum, closing out the set 25-14 on a Broncos service error to go up 2-1.
- LMU came out hot in the fourth set, going up 5-0, however, the Broncos retaliated, scoring four in a row. LMU again rallied, taking a 9-5 lead, and later 13-7. They scored three straight to go up 17-9, and eventually took the set 25-16.
NOTABLE NUMBERS:
- Alayna Crabtree tallied 15 kills and 12 digs, her fourth double-double of the season.
- Lauren Grover finished with 11 kills, her third game of the season in double figures in kills.
- Halle Reiter led the Broncos with 14 digs, her seventh game of the season recording double figures in digs.
