STOCKTON, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's volleyball team fell to the Pacific Tigers 3-2 on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Alex G. Spanos Center in Stockton, Calif. The Broncos fell behind early, losing the first and third sets, but battled back before falling in a fifth and final set. The Broncos were led by
Lauren Grover who had her second double-double of the season with 14 kills and 14 digs, and
Oren Abutbul who tallied 15 kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Pacific (10-5) took a 6-2 lead to start the first set, and later 15-9. Santa Clara cut the lead to 15-12 with three straight points, but Pacific went back up 17-12. The Broncos cut it to 18-16, however, Pacific scored the final seven points of the set, to take the first, 25-16.
- Santa Clara (4-8) took a 12-10 lead to start the second set after a kill from Alayna Crabtree, and later 18-15 after a kill from Layla Truitt. However, Pacific battled back, scoring two in a row, making it 18-17. The Broncos scored four in a row to take a 22-17 lead, capped off by a block from Lauren Grover. Pacific cut the lead to 22-20, but the Broncos scored three of the final four points to take the second set, 25-21.
- Pacific took a 7-3 advantage to start the third set, and later 14-8. The Broncos fought back, making it 18-15 after a kill from Elena Radeff. A kill from Oren Abutbul and Alayna Crabtree made it 22-20, forcing a Pacific timeout. The Tigers again outlasted the Broncos, scoring three of the final four points to take the third set 25-21.
- Santa Clara jumped out to a 5-2 lead to start a must win fourth set. However, Pacific bounced back, scoring three in a row to take an 8-7 lead. The Broncos again battled, scoring six in a row to take a 13-8 lead, capped off by a kill from Lauren Grover, forcing a Tigers timeout.
- The Broncos increased their lead 17-10 after a kill from Lauren Grover, forcing another Tigers timeout. The Broncos scored three in a row to make it 22-13, capped off by a kill from Lauren Grover. Pacific fought back, scoring four straight to make it 22-17, causing an SCU timeout. A kill from Danielle Brown made it 24-18, and a block from Alayna Crabtree gave the Broncos the fourth set, 25-18.
- Pacific jumped out to a 9-3 lead to start the fifth set, scoring three points in a row forcing an SCU timeout. The Tigers again scored three in a row to take a 13-4 lead. The Broncos battled back, cutting it down to 14-6, but it was too little too late as Pacific took the fifth set 15-6.
NOTABLE NUMBERS:
- Lauren Grover had her second double-double of the season with 14 kills and 14 digs.
- Oren Abutbul led the Broncos with 15 kills, her fifth game of the season in double figures.
- Layla Truitt led the Broncos hitting .353.
- Macy Hinshaw led the Broncos with 21 assists.
