FAIRFAX, Calif. - Sophomore
J.P. Odland solidified his name in the record books on Tuesday afternoon at the Meadow Club. After turning in a 67 and 66 on the opening day of action, the Tiburon, Calif. product put a bow on his brilliant play at the 2024 Alister MacKenzie Invitational by turning in a 6-under 65 in the final round to finish the event in seventh place at 15-under 198. The three-day total is tied for the lowest in Santa Clara men's golf history*.
With Odland leading the charge, the Broncos turned in a 15-under 269 for the day, locking up a sixth place finish in the team standings at 37-under 815.
ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Odland's 15-under performance tied Hayden Shieh's 15-under 201 in Oct. 2017 at the Jackrabbit as the lowest in program history.
- Odland's 6-under 65 is also a new career low for a single round. He tallied six birdies en route to his second-straight bogey-free round.
- Graduate Alvaro Muller also had an outstanding final round on the links, turning in a bogey-free round of his own that featured three birdies and an eagle on the first hole of the day. He finished the event tied for 41st at 5-under 209.
- Cameron Kasier shot a new career-best of his own in the final round with a 3-under 68 to finish tied for 34th at 6-under 207.
- Freshman Emil Nielsen tied with Kaiser at 34th after turning in a 3-over 74 for the day.
- San Jose State won the team and individual titles. The Spartans finished 56-under 796 to edge out Pacific for the trophy while Zubair Firdaus shot a whopping 23-under 190 for medalist honors.
