SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's volleyball team fell to the Portland Pilots 3-1 at the Leavey Center. The Broncos won the first set, before dropping the next three. They were led by
Elena Radeff, who had 16 kills, hitting .483, both season highs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Portland (11-11, 4-8) scored four in a row to take an 8-4 lead, however, the Broncos battled back, scoring three in a row capped off by a kill from Oren Abutbul to cut it to 8-7. Three straight Santa Clara points tied it up at 12 after a service ace from Lauren Grover. Portland went up 22-21, but the Broncos scored the final four points of the set, taking the first set 25-22, after a kill from Alayna Crabtree.
- The second set went back-and-forth until a slicing kill from Elena Radeff put the Broncos up 12-10. However, the Pilots answered, scoring seven in a row to take an 19-13 lead. A kill by Alayna Crabtree capped a three point rally for the Broncos to cut the Portland lead to 19-16, forcing a Pilots Timeout. A kill by Elena Radeff cut it to 22-19, but Portland finished off set two, 25-22.
- The Pilots scored seven straight points to take a 9-3 lead to open the third set. However, the Broncos scored three in a row to cut the lead to 12-10 after back-to-back kills from Lauren Grover. The Pilots scored three straight points to go up 18-14, but the Broncos answered with three points of their own to cut the deficit to 18-17. Portland went up 21-17 and rode the momentum, finishing off set three 25-21 to take a 2-1 match lead.
- A kill by Alayna Crabtree put the Broncos up 7-5, but Portland scored three in a row to take an 8-7 lead to open the fourth set. A kill by Lauren Grover put the Broncos up 11-9, and later 16-13, after a kill from Elena Radeff. However, Portland scored four in a row to take a 19-17 lead, forcing a Santa Clara timeout. Another kill from Elena Radeff cut the lead to 23-21, but Portland scored the final two points, taking the set 25-21, and the match 3-1.
NOTABLE NUMBERS:
- Elena Radeff led the Broncos with a season high 16 kills, hitting a career high .483.
- Alayna Crabtree added 12 kills, her 15th game of the season in double figures.
- Nive Tuileta led the Broncos with 24 assists, her 21st game of the season in double figures.
