SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer announced the signing of Yu Yokokawa, a six-foot defender from Tokyo Japan.
Yokokawa joins the Broncos from The American School in Japan where he helped lead the team to the Intermediate School League Championship of the Kanto region in 2024.
"I chose Santa Clara because it truly felt like a place where I could thrive academically as well as in my athletic career. I am grateful for this opportunity and looking forward to starting the season," said Yokokawa.
The center and left-back played his club soccer for the Mitsubishi Yowa SC from 2021 to 2023 and helped them to the Urawa Cup and Go For World Cup championships in 2021 and 2022.
He also played for the Yokohama F Marinos, a J-League academy team.
"Yu has a good presence in controlling the back line and reads and understands the game at a high level," said Broncos head coach Cam Rast. "Physically, he is ready for the challenge of the collegiate game and now it is just adjusting to the stylistic differences on how we play. We have had a couple of very good players come from The American School in Japan and he is going to be the next one."
Yokokawa is the eighth signee in the 2024 recruiting class.
