Men’s Soccer Signs Idaho Gatorade Player of the Year

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer signed Kai Hatten, the 2022-23 Idaho Gatorade Player of the Year from Timberline High School in Boise, Idaho.

Hatten, a midfielder, led Timberline High to an undefeated season and Idaho state championship with 14 goals and 10 assists in 2022 to help the Wolves repeat as the Idaho 5A state champions.

""Santa Clara is the perfect place for me to grow as a student and athlete. I'm excited for the opportunity to be a part of such a successful program," said Hatten.

In 2022, the 6-foot-2 Hatten was the Southern Idaho Conference Player of the Year, 5A State Player of the Year and  the Idaho Press Soccer Athlete of the Year.

He played his club soccer for the Boise Timbers being part of  three Idaho State Championships in 2019, 2021 and 2023.   In the fall of 2023, he played for the De Anza Force.  Hatten is already enrolled at Santa Clara and will have four years of eligibility remaining.

"Kai had a highly decorated youth career and chose to come to SCU looking for the next challenge," said Broncos head coach Cam Rast.  "He has already joined the team and is working in with the guys this winter session.  So far he has shown some good technical ability and is adjusting to the pace and physicality of collegiate game.  He is coachable so we are pushing him and his potential."

A Bronco legacy, Hatten's father, John, played with Rast and Broncos associated head coach Eric Yamamoto on the 1989 National Championship team.

Hatten is the sixth signee in the 2024 recruiting class.
