SANTA CLARA, Calif. – A pair of home tournaments and a loaded WCC slate that features a pair of new conference foes highlights Santa Clara Volleyball's 2024 schedule, which was officially announced by head coach
Erin Lindsey on Thursday.
"We are very excited about our opportunities to compete this upcoming fall," Lindsey said. "Our non-conference slate will prepare us for an always challenging WCC schedule, including the two new teams joining from the Pac 12. We are looking forward to opening the season by hosting Notre Dame and Villanova, which last season presented great matches to expose and test where we needed to be for conference play. We have a bunch of new athletes joining us this summer, and our returners are putting in hard work this off season to put us in the best position to compete for a WCC Championship."
The Broncos are set to begin the season August 30-31, when they host the Catholic Challenge – a tournament that was hosted by Villanova a season ago. Once again, Santa Clara will face off against Notre Dame (8/30) and Villanova (8/31). Last season, the Broncos split against that pair of teams, taking down Notre Dame 3-2 and falling against the Wildcats in four sets.
Following their first home tournament, Santa Clara will head to the Lone Star State for three matches at the UT Arlington Tournament, Sept. 5-7. The Broncos will take on the host as well as Louisiana Monroe and McNeese State.
The annual Santa Clara/San Jose State co-hosted tournament is next up and will span the weekend of Sept. 13-15. The Broncos will host Southern Utah on Friday and Fresno State on Saturday before welcoming the Spartans of San Jose State to round out the weekend on Sunday afternoon.
Before conference play begins, the Broncos will make the short drive to Berkeley for their final non-conference match of 2024 against the Golden Bears on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
A challenging conference slate then awaits Santa Clara and they will waste no time getting acquainted with one of their new league foes. The Broncos will open WCC play against Washington State on Sept. 26 as the first of three-straight home matches, which also includes San Francisco (9/28) and LMU (10/3).
The Broncos hit the road for three-straight after that with stops at Pacific (10/5), Oregon State (10/10) and Portland (10/12) before returning to the Leavey Center to host Pacific (10/17). Following a bye, Santa Clara will wrap up October at Gonzaga (10/24), home against Pepperdine (10/26) and at San Diego (10/31).
November will serve as a pivotal month in deciding the WCC champion and the Broncos will play in eight total matches throughout the month. They are slated to host home games on the 7
th (Oregon State), 9
th (Portland), 23
rd (Saint Mary's) and finally the 27
th (Gonzaga). Between those dates are road trips to Saint Mary's (11/2), Pepperdine (11/14), LMU (11/16) and San Francisco (11/20).
