FIBA U20 Tournament Central
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The annual FIBA U20 Eurobasket (also known as the European Championship) will once again have a Santa Clara flavor in 2024. For the second straight season,
Jake Ensminger will be suiting up for Team Germany, who is looking to capture their first U20 Eurobasket title. The tournament will be played in Gdynia, Poland from July 13-21.Â
A native of Ulm, Germany, Ensminger is not only playing, but will also serve as Team Germany's team captain. The rising sophomore has already captured the attention of media and scouts as one of the
top players to watch in the event.Â
In last year's FIBA U20 Eurobasket, Germany finished in sixth place while Ensminger's Bronco teammate
Adama-Alpha Bal and Team France captured the championship title.Â
Ensminger is coming off his first season of action with the Broncos. As a redshirt freshman in 2023-24, he played in all 33 games while drawing six starts and averaging 4.1 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. He was honored on the WCC's All-Freshman Team after elevating his play against league opponents to the tune of 5.3 points and a team-high 6.5 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-9 guard came up huge on the boards for Santa Clara during a nine-game stretch through WCC play where he pulled down at least six rebounds per outing, including four games with 10 or more.Â
A total of 16 teams split into four groups will compete in the 2024 Eurobasket. Germany is grouped with Israel, Czechia and Italy in Group B. The tournament begins with three days of group phase play to determine the seeding for all 16 teams ahead of bracket play. Ensminger's journey begins on July 13 against Italy. The game will be streamed live on
Youtube at 6:30 a.m. PT.Â
