ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Santa Clara men's golf is in the top half of a talented field after 36 holes of play at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, carding a 1-under 287-288--575 at the par-72, 7,546-yard Championship Golf Course in the first two rounds of action on Friday. The Broncos are currently in a three-way tie for sixth with Stetson and San Diego State.
ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Freshman Emil Nielsen leads all Broncos with a tie for 17th at 2-under 71-71--142. He carded six birdies in the second round after tallying four in the first.
- After turning in a 2-over 74 in the opening round, Alvaro Muller-Baumgart carded the lowest second round tally among the group with a 2-under 70 that featured seven birdies, five of which coming on the front nine, to climb 20 spots into a tie for 24th.
- Also in a tie for 24th is junior Calder Overfelt, who tallied the lowest round of the day for the Broncos with a 69 in the opening round. He carded five birdies with four on the back nine to offset just a pair of bogeys in the round. He shot a 75 in the second round to finish the day at even par 144.
- J.P. Odland is a stroke behind his teammates in a tie for 29th at 1-over 73-72--145 while Cameron Kaiser is tied for 61st at 5-over 74-75--149.
- Host-New Mexico leads the field at 21-under 555. The Lobos also have the top two players in the individual standings in Carson Herron (11-under 133) and Alvaro Portillo (9-under 135).
