FAIRFIELD, Calif. - Santa Clara men's golf turned things up a notch in Saturday's final round of the 2026 WCC Championship, carding a collective 10-under 274 at the par 71, 6,621-yard Green Valley Country Club to make a huge jump up the standings from 11th into a tie for fifth. The Broncos just missed out on qualifying for Sunday's match play after finishing eight strokes behind Oregon State for the final spot.
Matt Robles led the charge individually with a 6-under 65 in the final round to finish 4-under 209 in total where he tied for seventh.
ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:
- SCU's 10-under was tied for the lowest round of the day (Oregon State) and the third-lowest of the entire tournament. It also stands as the Broncos' third-lowest in program history at the WCC Championship.
- The Broncos' 4-under total is tied for the program's second-lowest at the WCC Championship (2021).
- Santa Clara tied with Seattle for fifth place while No. 45 San Diego (830), No. 15 Pepperdine (834), Augusta (839) and Oregon State (840) finished first through fourth to qualify for match play.
- Robles was outstanding in the final round, turning in five birdies and an eagle on the par-5 No. 3 hole. It was his team-best 17th round under par on the season.
- Robles' top-10 finish was his third of the season and the eighth of his young career.
- Calder Overfelt shot 1-over 72 in the final round to finish just outside the top-20 in a tie for 21st at 1-over 214. J.P. Odland was right behind him in a tie for 23rd at 2-over 215 after turning in a 2-under 69 on Saturday - his team-leading 12th round in the 60s on the year.
- Emil Nielsen tied for 36th at 4-under 217 after also shooting under par for the day at 1-under 70. Freshman Tucker Sweeney also turned in a 70 after coming in as a substitute for Kevin Hollomon following the first round of action.
- San Diego's Ian Maspat shot 15-under 198 to claim medalist honors.
