Faure and Khurana with Strong Days at Separate Men's Tennis Tournaments

SAN DIEGO – Valentin Faure continued his strong play on Friday at the second day of the Intercollegiate Championships on the campus of the University of San Diego, winning a pair of singles matches to advance to the quarterfinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Faure played in the main draw after winning his qualifying match on Thursday. In the round of 32, Faure handled Utah State's Dmitri Goubin 6-0, 7-5, followed by another straight set victory over host San Diego's Luc Wieland (San Diego) 7-5, 6-4. He will next play Grand Canyon's Andreaas Loizas on Saturday.
John Kim began his play at the tournament in the main draw, defeating Charlie Underwood of UC Santa Barbara in three sets 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 in the round of 32. However, in the next round, he fell to Utah State's Roman Venger 6-2, 6-4.
Luca Bluett was his extra singles match, downing TJ Wells of BYU 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4)

DAVIS, Calif. – Luca Lemaitre and Mahir Khurana each won their opening round in singles action while Khurana won two doubles matches to advance to the semifinals of the B flight in his Bronco debut.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Playing in Flight A, Lemaitre beat Nicolas Recoura of Nevada 6-2, 7-5 while Khurana beat David Dai from Sacramento State 6-3, 7-5 in the C flight.
Khurana, a redshirt freshman, paired up with Cal Poly's Derek Hafiz to win the round of 16 and quarterfinal doubles matches in the B flight. They first defeated Sacramento State's tandem of Justin Powell/Sebastian Vlahos 8-3, followed by a 8-5 win over Eduardo Gonzalez/Vidyuth Anand of UC Davis.
