LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Santa Clara women's golf's assault on the record book continued on Tuesday at the second round of the Golf Iconic Classic hosted by New Mexico State. The Broncos followed up Monday's 3-under round by turning in a 5-under 283 to put their 36-hole tally at 8-under 568. The score is the second-lowest 36-hole total in program history and has the team in fifth place ahead of Wednesday's final round. Junior
Kelsey Kim was outstanding individually as she turned in a career-best 4-under 68 to bring her two-day total to 6-under 138. That score also found its way into the Santa Clara record book, tying for the fourth-lowest 36-hole total in the program's history.
ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Kim was bogey-free with four birdies on Tuesday. She climbed nine spots in the standings into a tie for fourth where she is just three strokes behind Northern Colorado's Samantha Colombine (-9) for the individual lead.
- As a team, Santa Clara turned in the fourth-lowest score of the day (283).
- Alexa Pineda shot 1-over 73 on Tuesday to bring her two-day total to 2-under 142 where she is tied for 15th.
- Chloe Lam saw a three-stroke improvement from the first to second round, carding a 2-under 70 to climb 15 spots in the standings to tie for 25th at 1-under 143.
- Audrey Brust also improved upon her day one score with an even-par 72 on Tuesday to finish the day tied for 37th at 1-over 145.
- Proud Sriwongngam turned in her second-straight 1-over 73 to finish the day right behind Brust in a tie for 45th at 2-over 146.
- Boise State maintained their day one lead at 15-under 561, but the top five teams are all still in contention with just 18 holes to play. UC Irvine (-13), Long Beach State (-11), Northern Colorado (-10) and Santa Clara (-8) will all have a shot at the title on Wednesday.
