SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara women's volleyball ended a three game skid Wednesday night, sweeping the Washington State Cougars in dominating fashion.
Cate Shanahan led the way with 18 kills, her 18th game of the season in double figures, while
Macy Hinshaw had 35 assists and 11 digs, her 12th double double of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A kill by Morgan Hayes put Santa Clara up 5-1 early in set one, and later 9-2 after a service ace from Ashlynn Reilly. Another kill from Hayes increased the lead to 22-12 and kills from Layla Truitt and Grace Flanagan gave the Broncos set one, 25-14.
- Washington State (16-11, 10-7) took a 5-3 lead to open set two, but Santa Clara answered with four straight points capped off by another ace from Reilly. The Cougars evened it up at 10, but three straight made it 13-10, and later 17-13 after a kill from Cate Shanahan. Washington State again tied it at 17, but Shanahan again capped a four point Bronco rally, and a kill from Selin Aslayan finished off set two, 25-22.
- Santa Clara (16-12, 11-6) took a 3-1 lead in set three, and later 16-10 after a Shanahan kill. An ace from Lexi Trapani made it 22-15, and Aslayan finished it off, 25-17.
NOTABLE NUMBERS:
- Cate Shanahan totaled 18 kills, her 18th game of the season in double figures.
- Macy Hinshaw had 35 assists and 11 digs, her 12th double double of the season.
- Lexi Trapani finished with 18 digs, her 24th game of the season in double figures.
- Santa Clara won their 11th conference game tonight, their most since winning 13 in 2015.
- The Broncos improve to 5-8 all-time against Washington State and snap a three game losing streak.
