CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's golf had an up and down opening day at the Lamkin Invitational, but ultimately find themselves firmly inside the top five after 36 holes of action at the par-72, 7,033-yard San Diego Country Club. The Broncos had a dominant start to the event with a 14-under 274 in the opening round to lead the field, but was unable to maintain the same success in the second round, shooting a 1-under 287. Their 15-under 561 total has the Broncos in fourth place, two shots ahead of Saint Mary's and just eight strokes behind leader No. 25 San Diego State.
J.P. Odland leads the Broncos individually at 6-under 138 where he is tied for 14th while Matt Robles is right on his heels in a tie for 20th at 4-under 140.
ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Odland had a terrific opening round with a bogey-free 5-under 67 that saw the Tiburon, Calif. product tied for third at the end of the round. He shot under par again in the second round with four more birdies to bring his count up to nine on the day, but ultimately slipped 11 spots in the standings with a 1-under .
- Robles was consistent with back-to-back rounds where he carded 2-under 70. He climbed five spots following the second round to tie for 20th place overall, and tallied seven total birdies and one eagle across the two rounds.

Calder Overfelt also had a good start with a 3-under 69 in the opening round, but was 1-over 73 in the second to finish the day tied for 33rd at 2-under 142.

Similar to Overflet, Emil Nieslen also had a great start to the day, shooting a 4-under 68 in the opening round to find himself locked in a tie for fifth early, however he turned in a 3-over 74 in the second round to drop back to a tie for 38th at 1-under 143.
- Alvaro Muller was the lone Bronco to improve in the second round, shooting 1-over 73 for a two-stroke improvement from the opening round and finishing the day tied for 63rd at 4-over 148.
- The Aztecs hold both the team and individual lead (Justin Hastings at 10-under 134). No. 35 San Diego (554) is one stroke behind SDSU for second while No. 34 Colorado is just a shot behind them at 21-under 555.
