FAIRFIELD, Calif. - Santa Clara men's golf's time at the 2025 WCC Championship came to an end despite an outstanding effort in the semifinal round of match play on Sunday. The three-seeded Broncos fell to No. 2 LMU, 3-2-0, and concluded their time at the par 72 Green Valley Country Club in third. The finish is Santa Clara's best of the
Andrew Larkin Era and best since tying for third in 2018.
ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Broncos got on the board early with freshman Emil Nielsen securing a dominant 6&4 win over Mason Snyder. He chipped in for birdie on the par 3 No. 5 hole to secure the victory.
- J.P. Odland fought back from a 4UP deficit, turning in back-to-back birdies to win holes 6 and 7, however he ultimately was unable to complete the comeback against the Lions' Alejandro Alonso.
- Despite taking a 3UP advantage right out of the gate thanks to three-consecutive birdies to open the round, Matt Robles also fell in a 2UP final to Cade Anderson.
- Trailing 2-1 as a team, it was up to Alvaro Muller to extend the Broncos' chances as he headed to par 4 ninth hole tied with Louie Liu. The native of Spain delivered by rolling in for par while his opponent bogeyed to capture the all-important point and even the score at 2-2.
- Calder Overfelt faced off against Trevor Algya in what would prove to be the deciding match. The duo went back and forth for the entirety of the round with Algya holding a one-hole advantage going into the final two holes of the day. Both players birdied No. 8, setting up a showdown on No. 9 in which Algya once again birdied. Overfelt unfortunately was unable to match, ending the Broncos' chances of advancing to the championship round.
