SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's basketball is looking to stay hot this Saturday when they take to the road for yet another Pac 12 campus. The Broncos (7-1) will take on the Cal Golden Bears (2-5) at 4:00 p.m. PT at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley.
Santa Clara is 2-0 in games against the Pac 12 this season and 8-9 overall under Herb Sendek. The Broncos defeated Stanford, 89-77, in Maples Pavilion and Oregon, 88-82, in Niceville, Fla. as part of the Emerald Coast Classic. Following Saturday's game, the Broncos will have at least one more game against the Pac 12 this season with a neutral-court showdown against Washington State slated for Dec. 16 at the Jerry Colangelo Classic in Phoenix.
Santa Clara is coming off a 106-69 victory over Menlo in their last outing. Five players scored in double figures led by Jalen Benjamin's 16 points - his highest total as a Bronco. The Broncos were outstanding from beyond the arc, knocking down 17-of-29 attempts (58.6 percent). The 17 treys are tied for the second-highest tally ever in program history. The 106 points was not only Santa Clara's first 100-point game of the season, but their highest scoring total since posting 120 points against LaVerne in 2017.
Saturday's meeting will be the 77th all-time against Cal. The Golden Bears led the all-time series 46-30, however the Broncos have won two of the last three, including 71-62 last season in the Leavey Center. Cal has had major success against the Broncos at home, however, with a 29-14 record. Santa Clara is looking to win their first road game of the series since Steve Nash and company upset the 13th-ranked Bears, 80-67, on Dec. 4, 1993.
