MONTEREY, Calif. - Santa Clara men's golf made up some ground in the second round of action at the Leadership and Golf Collegiate Championship. The Broncos shot a 2-over 290 in the round and are just four strokes behind BYU for the lead at 3-under 573 in total. Freshman
Matthew Robles had the best round of his young career with an outstanding 6-under 66 on Tuesday to vault up the standings into a tie for second at 5-under 139.
ROUND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Robles, playing as an individual, had the best round of anyone in the field of 84. He logged five birdies and eagled the par-5 18th.
- Robles is in a four-way tie for second and just two strokes behind BYU's Simon Kwon (137) for the individual lead.
- Alvaro Muller also shot up the leaderboard with a big Tuesday of his own. He carded the second-best round of the day with a 4-under 68, his best round as a Bronco.
- Muller logged five birdies to offset a bogey on the 18th hole and is tied for 10th at 1-under 75-68--143.
- Also tied for 10th is Calder Overfelt, who was one under for the day. J.P. Odland is a stroke behind in sole possession of 14th place at even par.
- The Broncos hold a two-stroke advantage over Sam Houston State (575) in third place while Seattle and Pacific are tied for fourth at 4-over 580. BYU holds a slim two-stroke advantage at 7-under after turning in even par for the day, tied for the lowest round in the field of 14.
