Henry Caruso Set to Make USA National Team Debut in Puerto Rico

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Former Santa Clara men's basketball player Henry Caruso is one of four players named to the 2024 USA 3x3 Men's AmeriCup Team that is set to compete at the 2024 FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup Dec. 12-15 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, as announced by USA Basketball on Thursday.

After training with Team USA for the 2024 Olympics and just barely missing out on making the Olympic roster himself, Caruso will be making his official national team debut.

"I'm excited and honored to represent Team USA at the 3x3 AmeriCup," Caruso said. "I want to say thank you to our Santa Clara Bronco Community for your unwavering support on and off the court!"

Looking to win their third gold medal at the event (2021, 2022), Team USA is made up of Caruso, Mitch Hahn (Nebraska), James Parrott (Midland) and James Travis (Florida Southern).

Caruso, who has served as Anthony Passarelli's color commentator for Santa Clara men's basketball's ESPN+ and Sidearm Streaming broadcasts for the last three seasons, was one of 16 participants that competed at the 2024 USA 3x3 Men's National Training Camp in Colorado Springs, Colo. last February where he was one of eight finalists that qualified for consideration for future Team USA events, such as the 2024 AmeriCup.

Caruso played one season for Herb Sendek's Broncos in 2017-18, averaging 12.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game after transferring to SCU from Princeton.

3x3 basketball is played on a half-court with a 10-minute game clock and 12-second shot clock. Play is continuous as teams "clear" the ball behind the 2-point line following a made basket, defensive rebound or steal. The first team to score 21 points via 1-point field goals or 2-pointers beyond the arc is the winner. If time expires prior to either team reaching 21 points, the team with the most points at the final buzzer wins.

Caruso and Team USA will begin their quest towards a third gold medal on Dec. 13 in Pool A against Uruguay (1:20 p.m. PT) and Mexico (4:25 p.m. PT). Following pool play, the top two teams of the four three-team pools will advance to the quarterfinals on Dec. 15. The semifinals and championship game will also be played on Dec. 15. All games will stream live on YouTube. For more information about the event, click here
