SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara volleyball has officially added a pair of talented Power-5 transfers to its 2024 roster in the form of graduate Alayna Crabtree out of Boston College and junior Selin Aslayan from Michigan State.
Crabtree will play her final year of eligibility as a Bronco after an outstanding four-year campaign with the Eagles where she made 107 appearances and played in 305 total sets. She racked up 630 career kills (an average of 2.07 per set), 461 digs, 88 total blocks and 82 service aces.
As a senior in 2023, Crabtree made 32 appearances and played 103 total sets. She tallied 217 kills, had 29 service aces and 31 total blocks. Her best game of the season came on the road against UC Irvine where she hit .326 and tallied a career-high 21 kills in the victory.
Crabtree's best season at Boston College came in 2022 as a junior where she helped the program capture its first-ever postseason championship in winning the National Invitational Volleyball Championship, a tournament the Broncos themselves reached the second round of. The Normal, Ill., product set career highs across the board in kills (280), service aces (40), total blocks (40) and digs (208). She tallied seven double-doubles, including in two matches of the NIVC. Crabtree notched 14 kills and 17 digs in the quarterfinal against Xavier and led the Eagles in the NIVC Championship Match with a season-high 19 kills and 16 digs to help Boston College take down Drake in five sets.
Prior to joining Boston College, Crabtree starred at University High School in Normal, Ill., where she helped lead the team to undefeated league championship titles in 2018 and 2019. She was named to both the all-state second team and all-conference first team as a senior after totaling 337 kills, 259 digs and 59 aces.
"Alayna will be an experienced addition to our pin hitting core," head coach
Erin Lindsey said. "She brings experience passing and attacking in the ACC, one of the best conferences in the nation the last couple years. She is a composed and steady producer and we will look for her to bring that leadership to our team."
Aslayan joins the Broncos by way of Michigan State where she appeared in 24 matches in two seasons with the Spartans. As a freshman, she appeared in 50 total sets with eight starts and 18 total matches played. She recorded 80 kills while also tallying nine service aces, 55 digs and 18 total blocks. Aslayan had a season-high 12 kills and hit .300 on the road against Indiana. She also had a standout match against Chicago State where she hit .368 with 10 kills.
A native of Kadikoy, Turkey, Aslayan initially joined Michigan State after 10 years of playing experience with Fenerbahce Spor Kulubu and played for the U16/17, U17/18, U19/20 and U21/22 Turkish national teams.
"We are so excited to add Selin to our team," Lindsey said. "It is great that she was able to join us midyear in order to get to know the team and our systems. She brings us depth at the outside hitting position and in our serve receive. Selin fits our system well as we look for pin hitters who have a complete game and also brings the size and experience to score."
