SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Santa Clara University men's cross country team grabbed a top-20 team finish Friday, led by
Daniel Trampe's top-100 individual finish, at the 2025 NCAA West Region Championship hosted at the Arcade Creek Cross Country Course.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trampe led the Broncos with an 88th-place finish, completing the 10-kilometer course in 31 minutes, 10.9 seconds. Trampe gradually moved up in the pack, moving from 111th place 1 1/2 miles into the race to his final spot at 88th. Jack Tolbert was only 17.4 seconds behind Trampe in 103rd place, finishing in 31:28.3.
- The rest of the Broncos' scoring top-five packed extremely well, with only 2.3 seconds separating the No. 3-5 runners. Zafer Courcelle placed 117th in 31:46.8, Brooks McCoy was 119th in 31:49.0, and Liam Papavasiliou was right behind him in 120th and a time of 31:49.1.
- Daniel Vaca (131st, 32:01.3) and Kyle Berg (163rd, 32:43.1) rounded out the Broncos' top-seven. The Broncos scored 539 points to tie for 19th place, but lost a tiebreaker with Grand Canyon, with three 'Lopes runners besting three of the Broncos' top-five, to settle into 20th place.
- Oregon won the team title with 55 points. California Baptist took the other automatic team qualifying spot for the NCAA National Championship with 95 points in second place. West Coast Conference champion Washington State finished third with 98 points. WSU's Solomon Kipchoge (28:54.4) and Evans Kurui (29:23.1) finished 1-2 in the individual race.
