SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Four Santa Clara University baseball players earned all-West Coast Conference recognition on Tuesday, with right-handed pitcher
Max Bayles and first baseman
Dylan Joyce named to the All-WCC Second Team, and infielder
Ben Cleary and right-handed pitcher
Cooper Lanz earning honorable mention.

Joyce led the Broncos offensively throughout the season, finishing with a team-best .314 batting average, .580 slugging percentage, 59 hits, 49 RBIs, 13 home runs and 40 runs scored. He recorded his first career multi-homer game on April 26 versus Pacific and hit six home runs that gave Santa Clara the lead in those games. He led Santa Clara with 18 multi-hit games and 13 multi-RBI games on the year. Defensively, he posted a .995 fielding percentage at first base in 403 total chances.

Bayles led the WCC with 105 strikeouts this season and ranked fourth among qualified pitchers with a 4.45 ERA. He struck out nine or more in six outings, including a career-high 12 in 5 1/3 innings at UC Davis on Feb. 22, and tossed a complete-game (7-inning) shutout on March 22 versus rival San Francisco. Opponents hit just .232 against him. Nationally, his 14.18 strikeouts per nine innings rank fourth in the country, and he also stands among the top-10 in several advanced categories: 35.1% strikeout rate (7th), 3.77 xFIP (9th), and 2.36 SIERA (14th). He was named WCC Pitcher of the Week three times (Feb. 17, Feb. 24, May 12) and was selected to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List and the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award Watch List.

Cleary hit .344 with a .421 on-base percentage in 24 conference games and reached base safely in 46 of 49 games overall. He finished second on the team in batting average (.302), runs scored (37), hits (55), and doubles (12). He was second on the team behind Joyce with 15 multi-hit games.

Lanz made seven appearances during conference play, including four starts, and went 4-1 with a 2.92 ERA. He limited WCC opponents to a .132 batting average and recorded a strikeout-to-walk ratio better than 2-to-1. He had three conference outings of five or more innings while allowing two runs or fewer, including two on the road. Overall, he posted a 3.75 ERA with 28 strikeouts in 36 innings.
