SANTA CLARA, Calif. —Santa Clara baseball right-handed reliever
Caden Wooster has signed an undrafted free agent contract with the New York Mets organization, following a three-year career with the Broncos from 2023–25.
Wooster served as the team's primary closer during his junior season in 2025, collecting a team-high four saves and making 18 relief appearances, the second-most on the team. He struck out 29 batters in 27 1/3 innings while holding opponents to a .225 batting average against. Among his standout performances, Wooster delivered shutout efforts against California, No. 12 Texas, and Stanford, and recorded back-to-back saves in outings against Pepperdine and Gonzaga. Santa Clara has produced a strong track record of developing pitchers for professional baseball since head coach
Rusty Filter took over the program in 2018. Skylar Hales (Texas Rangers, 4th round, 2023) is currently pitching at Triple-A Round Rock,
Blake Hammond (Athletics, 15th round, 2024) is pitching at Single-A Stockton, and Nick Sando (undrafted free agent, 2023) is pitching at High-A Daytona in the Cincinnati Reds organization.
Over his three seasons with Santa Clara, Wooster made 39 total appearances (one start) and compiled a 3-4 record with five career saves. He tallied 51 strikeouts across 52 innings and earned West Coast Conference All-Academic Honorable Mention honors twice (2024, 2025). He was also recognized on the WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll with "Bronze" honors on two occasions (2023-24 and 2024-25).
Wooster made 13 relief appearances in his sophomore campaign in 2024 — the most by any Broncos pitcher who didn't start a game — and posted a 1-1 record with 12 strikeouts in 13 1/3 innings. Wooster's freshman season in 2023 included his lone career start, where he earned the win with five shutout innings and seven strikeouts against Cal. He finished the year 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA in 11 1/3 innings and recorded 10 strikeouts against three walks.
A native of Oakland, Calif., Wooster is a graduate of Bishop O'Dowd High School, where he was a three-time Baseball Factory Preseason All-American and a consistent First Honor Roll honoree.
