CLOVIS, Calif. — The Santa Clara University men's track team secured a steeplechase victory, a 1–2 finish, and multiple front-running performances across distance events Friday at the West Coast Relays at Veteran's Memorial Stadium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Eric Ortega-Gammill led the Broncos with a win in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing first in 9 minutes, 21.81 seconds. It was his second win of the outdoor season after also winning three weeks ago at the Golden Gate Track Fest in San Francisco. Jack Tobin followed in second place with a time of 9:24.68, and McCoy Brooks added a fourth-place finish in 9:40.79 as Santa Clara placed three runners inside the top four.
   
• Santa Clara also placed two runners at the front of the 1,500 meters, with Jack Tolbert finishing second in 3:45.98 and Liam Papavasiliou taking third in 3:46.68. Antonio Camacho-Bucks added a fifth-place finish in 3:51.24 as the Broncos placed three inside the top five.
   
• Across additional sections of the 1,500, Evan Charkut placed third in his heat (3:56.69), while Jack Kyle won his section in 4:04.73. Paul Beaven (14th), Daniel Vaca (15th), Zafer Courcelle (17th) and Andrew Ho (18th) all finished within a tight grouping, with James Ponzio (25th), Jacob McManus (27th) and Nico Trepanier (30th) also competing in the event.
   
• In the 800 meters, Connor Rickey ran 1:53.65 to finish 13th overall and second in his heat, competing alongside Coen Strub, who placed fifth in the same section in 1:56.18. Antonio Camacho-Bucks added a 17th-place finish in 1:55.47.

COMING UP

• Santa Clara will send runners to three different meets next week: the Brutus Hamilton Invitational in Berkeley, Calif., the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco, and the Stanford Invitational in Stanford. All three meets will be held on Friday and Saturday at their respective locations.
