SAN FRANCISCO — The Santa Clara University men's track team opened the 2026 outdoor season Friday with two event victories and a series of front-running finishes at the Golden Gate Track Fest at San Francisco State's Cox Stadium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Daniel Trampe led a dominant showing for the Broncos in the 3,000 meters, crossing the line first in a personal-best 8 minutes, 25.33 seconds. Teammates Evan Charkut and James Ponzio followed in second and third with times of 8:30.64 and 8:35.02, respectively, giving Santa Clara the top three finishes in the race. Will Carroll added a fifth-place performance in 8:39.46 as the Broncos placed four runners inside the top-five.
   
• Eric Ortega-Gammill delivered Santa Clara's second victory of the meet in his first career 3,000-meter steeplechase race, winning in 9:23.96. McCoy Brooks followed in third place with a time of 9:32.19, while Jack Tobin and Liam Papavasiliou finished fourth and fifth in 9:32.22 and 9:37.92. James Estrella added a sixth-place finish in 9:44.02 to give the Broncos five runners inside the top six.
   
• Santa Clara also placed multiple runners near the front of the 800 meters. Connor Rickey led the group with a fifth-place finish in 1:53.63, followed closely by Andrew Ho in sixth (1:53.95). Coen Strub placed eighth in 1:56.30, while Nico Trepanier (ninth) and Daniel Vaca (12th) also competed in the event.

COMING UP

• The Broncos next compete at the West Coast Relays, hosted by Fresno State in Clovis, Calif., on March 28.
