SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Riding a three-match winning streak, Santa Clara men's soccer plays its fifth consecutive road match to finish nonconference play against CSUN on Saturday. The kickoff against the Matadors is set for 7 p.m. at Matador Soccer Field.
The Broncos are coming off an impressive back-to-back shutout wins on the road and have a 3-1 record during the current road stretch. Santa Clara made a cross country trip to Nashville, Tennessee to beat Lipscomb, 2-0, on Sept. 27 and took down Evansville by the same score, 2-0, on Sept. 29 with only a 36 hour rest in between matches. Meanwhile, both Lipscomb and Evansville last played on Sept. 22 leading up to the match with the Broncos.
Santa Clara will now turn its sights to CSUN with both squads holding identical records at 5-3-1.
THE MATADORS (5-3-1)
CSUN started the season strong going 4-0-1 including a pair of wins in Ohio at the Bert & Iris Wolstein Classic, beating host Ohio State, 4-3, followed by a 2-1 win over in-state squad, Dayton. The Matadors also took down then-No. 7/8 Washington at home, 3-1, to start the 2019 campaign with a five-match unbeaten streak.
However, CSUN has dropped the three of the last four matches including two against West Coast Conference foes, falling 3-1 against Portland and 2-0 against then-No. 21/22 LMU. The Matadors put an end to its three-match losing streak, winning the last match against Omaha on Sept. 27, 2-1, in overtime.
Head coach Terry Davila enters his 21st season at the helm of the Matadors and is the all-time winningest coach in school history with a 199-155-52 record.
The Matadors average over two-and-a-half goals per game led by Daniel Trejo and Johnny Rodriguez who have each scored eight goals. Trejo also has four assists to his credit and leads the team with 20 points. Julio Rubio leads the team with eight assists.
Paul Lewis has played in eight matches between the posts and has a 2.13 goals-against-average to go with a .619 save percentage, however, David Preys started the last match against Omaha. Preys has a 0.56 GAA in 161 minutes of action.

THE BRONCOS (5-3-1)
The 2019 campaign marks the 18th season at the helm for Santa Clara head coach Cam Rast who leads a squad that returns 23 players including three All-West Coast Conference honorees from a team that finished 5-10-2.
Nineteen of the returners saw action last season with 13 of them appearing in double digit matches to account for 80 percent of its goals and all of its assists.
Junior
Javier Ruiz Duran led the team in goals (six) and assists (five) to earn All-WCC Second Team recognition along with senior
Miles Robinson who scored four and assisted on three. Sophomore
Eduardo Lopez Perez tallied a pair of goals and was named to the WCC All-Freshman team.
Redshirt junior
Henning Jolivet brings the most experience between the woodwork playing in seven matches last season to finish with a 3-3-1 record and a 1.89 goals against average.
Badenes Mecho already has three clean sheets to his credit as defensively, the Broncos have not allowed more than a single goal in any of their matches this season.
