SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After making a cross country trip to earn a
2-0 shutout win against Lipscomb on Friday, Santa Clara men's soccer stay on the road to face Evansville on Sunday at Noon PT in just the second meeting against the Purple Aces. The first meeting came in 1988 when the two squads played to a 1-all draw.
The Broncos have won back-to-back matches for the first time this season behind a balanced scoring and steady defense. In the last two matches, a 3-1 win over UNLV and 2-0 shutout of Lipscomb, five different Broncos have scored, outshooting the opponents 29-19. Santa Clara defense has not allowed more than one goal a game in all eight matches.
THE PURPLE ACES (2-4-1)
Evansville is 2-4-1 this season but are 2-1 at home in McCutchan Stadium. The Broncos and the Purple Aces have one common opponent with both teams having played at Lipscomb. The Broncos shutout Lipscomb 2-0 on Friday and the Purple Aces tied with Lipscomb 1-1 back on Sept. 10.
Fifth-year head coach Marshall Ray leads his alma mater where he has compiled a 36-67-15 record.
On the season, Evansville has scored 10 goals while giving up 12. J. Stafford-Lacey and Ryan Harris have scored three goals each to lead the team.
Goalkeeper Frederik Reimer has started in all seven matches and has a .613 save percentage to go along with a 1.66 goals against average.
SERIES HISTORY
Sunday's match is the second meeting between Evansville and Santa Clara as the first match occured in 1988.
THE BRONCOS (4-3-1)
The 2019 campaign marks the 18th season at the helm for Santa Clara head coach Cam Rast who leads a squad that returns 23 players including three All-West Coast Conference honorees from a team that finished 5-10-2.
Nineteen of the returners saw action last season with 13 of them appearing in double digit matches to account for 80 percent of its goals and all of its assists.

Javier Ruiz Duran led the team in goals (six) and assists (five) to earn All-WCC Second Team recognition along with senior
Miles Robinson who scored four and assisted on three. Sophomore
Eduardo Lopez Perez tallied a pair of goals and was named to the WCC All-Freshman team.
Redshirt junior
Henning Jolivet brings the most experience between the woodwork playing in seven matches last season to finish with a 3-3-1 record and a 1.89 goals against average.
