Men’s Soccer Signs AAC Rookie of the Year Transfer from SMU

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara men's soccer program announced the signing of Niv Berkovitz, a transfer from SMU and a former American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year. 
 
The attacking midfielder from Hod Hasharon, Israel played two seasons with the Mustangs where he started in 24 of the 32 matches he appeared in. 
 
During his freshman campaign in 2023, Berkovitz was the second leading scorer on the team with six goals helping lead the Mustangs to the third round of the NCAA Tournament.  He was named to the AAC All-Rookie Team that season. 
 
This fall, Berkovitz tallied two goals including the game winner against University of the Incarnate Word.  SMU once against qualified for the NCAA Tournament, this time representing the Atlantic Coast Conference, before falling to Marshall in the quarterfinals. 
 
"I chose Santa Clara for its top soccer and academic programs, along with its amazing location in Silicon Valley," said Berkovitz.
 
Berkovitz will enroll at Santa Clara in January, 2025 and will have two years of eligibility remaining. 
 
He was a member of the U17 and U18 Israel national team and also participated in the Israeli cup.
 
"Niv is a special player; a proven goal scorer and a leader.  He is passionate about the game and has the ability to make those around him better.  His experience with the Israel National Team's program and collegiately at a high level makes him a great player to help impact our team and our success," said Broncos head coach Cam Rast.
