Beach Volleyball Splits on Final Day of Battle of the Bay Tourney

STANFORD, Calif.- The Santa Clara women's beach volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday on the final day of the Battle of the Bay tournament. After a decisive 5-0 victory over Pacific, the Broncos fell over the No. 5 ranked Cardinal by the same score.

The Broncos dominated the first match against the Tigers from start to finish with each pair sweeping the first two sets. A 21-12, and 21-17 victory from Holland Jackson and Alexandra Urbina was followed up by a 21-16 and 21-12 victory from Sadie Snipes and Sammy Wood in the No. 2 spot. Callie Loughran and Noelle Niederman defeated the Tigers 21-13 and 21-16, while Sveva Munneke and Teagan Wilson decisively won both sets 21-18 and 21-19. Ava Stoddard and Kawena Chillingworth capped off the Broncos sweep 21-12 and 21-11, completing the Broncos third straight victory.

The Broncos put up a tough fight against the No. 5 ranked Cardinal, giving them all they could handle, ultimately falling 5-0. They kept it close, only losing the first three pairings by no more than five points each set. The No. 5 pairing of Ava Stoddard and Kawena Chillingwqorth had the lowest scoring margin of the day, losing their second set 21-19.
