NORTHRIDGE, Calif.- The Santa Clara women's beach volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday for the first day of the CSUN Invite. The Broncos defeated Concordia University, Irvine 3-2, before falling 0-5 to Utah.

The Broncos had a tough win in the first matchup of the day over the Eagles. After falling in the No. 1 pairing, Alexandra Urbina and Holland Jackson picked up a big win in the No. 2 spot in three sets. Noelle Niederman and Ciara Cantlen came up with a huge three set win in the No. 3 spot and Teagan Wilson/Sveva Munneke closed out the match with a comeback three set victory in the No. 4 spot. The Broncos lost the final match of the day, but secured the 3-2 victory.

After waiting around for over two hours following the conclusion of their first match, the Broncos put up a tough fight against the Utes, but ultimately fell 0-5. All of the first three pairs for the Broncos took the Utes to three sets, but unfortunately fell in the final frame. The Broncos dropped the No. 4 pairing in straight sets and Ava Stoddard and Kawena Chillingworth took the Utes to a long second set, ultimately falling 21-10, 26-24.
