Women's Soccer Has Nine Honored on All-Conference Teams

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Led by Annie Karich's Defensive Player of the Year nod, Santa Clara women's soccer had nine players honored on the All-West Coast Conference teams as voted on by the league's head coaches.

Karich was also named First Team All-WCC, joined by teammates Sally Menti and Farrah Walters. The three First Team selections were the most for any team. Colby Barnett was named to the Second Team with Alyssa Bourgeois and Lucy Mitchell taking home honorable mention. Jordyn Crosby, Mailin Orozco, and Malia Yamamoto were named All-Freshman.

Karich made the move to center back during the year and has helped lead a shutdown defense for the Broncos that allowed just a 0.58 GAA and more than one goal only once. Karich added a goal and two assists as well. Last season she was the WCC Freshman of the Year, First Team All-WCC, and All-Freshman.

Menti returned after missing all of last year with an injury and leads Santa Clara with eight assists while also scoring three goals. She was the 2020 WCC Freshman of the Year, All-WCC Second Team, and All-Freshman.

Walters leads the team with 11 goals and 24 points. She won WCC Offensive Player of the Week twice. The first came September 25 after picking up her second career hat trick, the 31st in program history, in a 6-0 win over Pacific. Her second was October 16 after scoring twice in a 5-1 win over the Tigers. Last season Walters was named WCC All-Freshman.

Barnett is tied for second on the team with four assists and has scored three times. She had back-to-back game-winning goals against Saint Mary's and Pacific. In the match against the Gaels, she also had two assists for a season-high four points. Barnett was Second Team All-WCC last season and All-Freshman in 2021.

Bourgeois has been a force on the wings and on defense this season both squashing opponents' chances and starting attacks on offense. She picked up an assist against Pacific.

Mitchell has scored one goal and added two assists. She made her tally count as it was the game-winner against James Madison to get Santa Clara to 6-0, the program's best start since 1999. In 2021, Mitchell was All-WCC honorable mention.

Crosby is second on the team with five goals. She got her collegiate career going quickly with goals vs. Oregon State and at Washington in the second and third games of the season. Saturday, she scored the lone goal in the Broncos 1-0 win at Portland to close out the regular season.

Orozco has scored three times and added three assists. In her second career game, she had three points, a goal and an assist, against Oregon State. She accomplished the same at Pacific and scored the game-winner at Seattle.

Yamamoto has scored one goal and added one assist. She took on a bigger role midway through the season and has appeared in the last nine matches. She scored her first collegiate goal in a 1-0 win over Pepperdine and picked up her first career assist against Pacific.
