Santa Clara Athletics Hall of Fame
A member of the class of 1933, Gil Dowd is one of Santa Clara’s original Hall of Famers. Dowd was an all-star end who continuously wreaked havoc on opposing offenses. Coaches praised him, saying that he was easily the most consistent end on the team. Dowd was average stature, standing 6’0” and weighing 197 pounds, but he didn’t let that stand in his way. His stellar play earned him recognition as an All-Coast Selection his junior year, which he followed up with an All-American nomination the next year.
